Craniofacial reconstruction using osteocutaneous free tissue transfer poses an anatomic challenge in restoring function and aesthetics after tumor resection or trauma. Current methods in the OR utilize only 2D CT imaging and surgeon intuition. A lack of real-time 3D visualization of unobstructed craniofacial structures can pose challenges in surgery.
Our team in the Zopf Lab created 3D printed models of craniofacial anatomy (and scapulas), tailored to each patient. These were segmented from CT scans, 3D printed in Biocompatible Resin, post-processed, and autoclave sterilized. These were subsequently used in the OR for live-time surgical planning.
